Piandoccoli vineyards are entirely based on Pliocene deposits and the marine Neogene cycle that characterizes the plains of the Apennine orogeny creating the typical gentle outline of the hilly lowlands. A gentle outline that is often brought to an abrupt halt by the presence of vertical erosive features which are a characteristic feature especially in the Piandaccoli area: The so-called “ravines “, which are extremely beneficial in bringing a variable to the microclimate in the area, creating ascensional currents that mitigate the hotter summer temperatures
